The Furnace, an old-time favourite of many a local music punter has now shut down to be refurbished and will open in April as Basement 13. Watch this space, we will report back on how to go Basement 13 is once it opens.

Oasis Leisure Centre can hold a massive 3,000 fans packed in to see some of the best bands in the country. Most famous for giving Liam Gallagher the name for Oasis when he saw a poster for the music venue it has seen the likes his band Beady Eye rock local audiences. The likes of Biffy Clyro, McFly and The Enemy have also played cracking gigs here recently so keep your eye on who is playing. Located on North Star Avenue, Swindon, SN2 1EP the Oasis Leisure Centre is undergoing a massive £92 million pound rebuild, expanding the capacity to over 6,500 ensuring that Swindon continues to attract some of the business names in the music business.

Meca Swindon has a standing capacity of just under 2,000, with national and international bands coming to play to rock locals. Though possibly more famous for its bingo nights in recent Meca can still put on a show when it wants to. It is worth keeping an eye on what is on here and located at Regents Circus, SN1 1PR, right in the middle of town there is no excuse not to take advantage of some great nights.

Swindon Music Scene is a fantastic website that details the history and the rise of the Swindon's rock scene during the 50s & 60s. Packed full of fascinating information on bands and past gig listings the website really puts into context the development of rock n' roll within our part of the country. A movement which of course gave rise to "Swindon's first Rockstar" Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. A great music website that is well worth taking a look through if you want to feel inspired by our musical history.
